A skeptic’s trip to a haunted house changes his mind.

I’ve never been much of a paranormal addict. I don’t watch the shows. I don’t sit up in the wee hours searching for EVP recordings on youtube. I’ve never had a paranormal experience, never seen a ghost, never heard a ghost…until recently that is.

About two weeks ago, my wife was invited to attend a paranormal investigation as a fill-in medium for the team. Naturally she asked me to come along as well “for the fun of it.” “It will get you out of the house,” she said. Not that I particularly wanted to be gotten out of the house at three in the morning you understand. I figured it would be pretty boring, which for the most part it was, however, I also thought I might at least catch a nap in the car because it was a three hour drive each way.

Arriving at the “house,” in the evening, we were introduced to the team who greeted us with sandwiches, chili, chips and soda. While the team engaged my wife in the details of the investigation, I volunteered to man the refreshment table set up in the parking lot…making it clear by my actions that I was a non believer. The team was actually a camera crew, complete with camera operators, sound guy, director, producer, production assistants, etc. I got a kick out of the handful of paranormal groupies in attendance who tried like heck to get the attention of anyone who would listen to them.

As the shoot commenced, my wife entered the dark building with the camera crew. Nothing happened to speak of, ‘cept I had to make another pot of coffe…and not that I was really expecting anything. About 40 minutes passed. We had to be quiet because of the sound equipment. I’d been pounding cup after cup of coffee out of boredom. The crew came out and I looked for my wife. When I saw her, I knew something was wrong. She was white as a, uhm..well…a ghost and visibly shaken. She told me that there had been a very disturbing growl inside the house.

“A growl?” I asked, thinking that there must have been a stray running about the place. She insisted that there had been no stray. The camera crew turned the lights on and a search was made that revealed no animals in the house. Must’ve run out the back I thought.
