James come home from the shops to the shock of his life!

I only went to the shops!

James put the three full Tesco shopping bags on the back seat of the Ford Mondeo. He looked in the mirror and mused   ‘God I look tired! I need a holiday; but hopefully soon thanks to Jean. James started the turbo Diesel Hatchback company car and drove out of the Tesco car park the headlights were bright on his brand new Mondeo they flashed back at him from the shop windows opposite.

The light rain hit the windscreen and James put on the intermittent wipers and the CD player. Billy Joel blasted out with the single  ‘For the Longest Time’ James tapped the steering wheel in time to the cheery tune. He turned into his road and slammed on the brakes! Blue flashing police light were everywhere! Two ambulances were parked midway up his road! A policeman in a fluorescent jacket tapped on his window and made a sign for him to wind down the glass, the policeman said,

“The road is closed you will have to go another way sir”

James sat stunned and just stared at the closed road. Jim said,

“What’s happened I can’t go another way I live in this road I have frozen foods on the back seat, what’s happened?”

The Policeman was not expecting this reply he said,

“You live in this road? Ok your name and what No please?”

“James Halliday and I live at No 128 a bungalow up on the embankment why? Tell me what’s wrong I insist!”

The Policeman beckoned over his Sergeant and told him to speak to Jim. The portly Sergeant spoke,

“Good evening sir are you James Stuart Halliday?”

James was tiring of questions he snapped,

“Yes now I want to go home! My wife will be worried she cares about me since my heart attack you see. Please let me through unless there is an unexploded bomb!”

The sergeant flashed a torch over the interior of the car and said as he leaned into the door aperture,

“Can you switch off the engine please and give me the ignition keys”

James obeyed with a very quizzical look on his face and said,
