I wrote these song lyrics for my World History class during my sophomore year in high school. These lyrics pertain to holocaust. It is in the viewpoint of a survivor.
I’m A Survivor!
I saw the trains arrive to take groups of people away
They were forced by solders into freight cars at all hours of the night and day
I wondered if I would be on the next train, but only time would tell
Each time I heard the train whistle blow, I would hide inside the old well
It was dark and cold and I feared my life would be ending
If only I could survive another day to make a new beginning
I’m a survivor, I’m a survivor I know this is true
Thinking of happy times kept me from being blue
I prayed for better times without war and killing
The thought of dying was so darn chilling
If you tried to resist they would shoot you where you stood
They made it very difficult to escape and only a very few could
They would take you to the camps where all bad things were seen
The thoughts of these things would make grown people scream
I’m a survivor, I’m a survivor I know this is true
Thinking of happy times kept me from being blue
I prayed for better times without war and killing
The thought of dying was so darn chilling
They would take children from their parents, and didn’t care at all
Many died for no reason, shot by firing squads against a stone wall
Other countries soon became involved and finally the killing stopped and problems were solved
Time has helped to heal all the wounds, I remember the good family and friends that didn’t make it, but at the same time I’m glad that I did
I tell the story every chance that I get
I want to make sure that everyone doesn’t forget
but
I’m a survivor, I’m a survivor I know this is true
Thinking of happy times kept me from being blue
I prayed for better times without war and killing
The thought of dying was so darn chilling
