True story. It took three hours of my life.
Using MSN was important for me, and didn’t want to try its online versions. So I downloaded Windows Live Messenger. I downloaded Windows Live Installer from Microsoft and that wanted me to install everything else too: Silverlight, Bing as default, etc. I ticked Messenger and pressed “Continue”. An alert message told me that I am not able to install Windows Live Messenger, I had to confirm validity of my OS. Microsoft.com again, plug-in downloaded, installed, serial-key and validity confirmed. What happened next? After pressing Continue again I received another message, something like “Error at 0×000000″. Ah! I have to install older versions, so I downloaded those… Another error message: I need XP Service Pack 2. I opened the original site of Microsoft and all texts was appearing in my own language: Hungarian. I downloaded the Service Pack 2 from the Hungarian site by pressing “Letöltés” (Download) button. The process took about 15 minutes of my life. Time is money, thought I, but I couldn’t do else. After successful downloading I tried to open it. An unexpected message was appearing on the screen: “Your OS is Hungarian and the installer is English.” I cursed Microsoft a lot and downloaded the Hungarian version from another site. Later SP2 was successfully installed including an older version of MSN. It was good substrate to install Windows Live Messenger onto it. I typed my old Hotmail address, but all my connections lost. I shouted something uncensored.
