In the beginning a lot of religions claim that there was nothing. While that is certainly correct, it isn’t entirely correct. Science and math have taught us that something cannot form from nothing; matter is never destroyed.
So the real beginning should be : “In the beginning there was everything and there was nothing.” And so, that is where we shall begin.
In the beginning, there was everything and there was nothing. Everything was without form and function. It was a cacophony of potential, and yet it was truly nothing. It was Chaos; He who is the Father of everything.
It is impossible to say for how long he existed by himself out between the Everything and Nothingness. Time was immeasurable. But, regardless of how long he was there, eventually he grew lonely. Rather than give himself over to despair, the Aspect of Chaos reached into the Everything and willed it Form and Function. As he wished to fill the void in his existence, he willed the Form to be his equal in all things. And thus, the Aspect of Chaos gave birth to his wife, the Aspect of Order.
For another period of time immeasurable they ruled together, growing to love one another completely. However, because Order had been made with Form and Function, it became part of her nature to seek to give these things to everything around her. And so it was that Order created the universe with the void of space, the planets, and the stars.
However, it wasn’t enough. Order became obsessed with creating Form and Function for everything, dictating these things to every piece of matter within the Everything and draining the Nothingness away. Chaos implored her to cease and to allow the Everything to remain undefined, but Order had been consumed by her insanity. Chaos begged and pleaded, but he could not sway her from her task.
With love in his heart, Chaos could only see one alternative to save the balance of Nothingness and the Everything, and so he wrapped his arms about the Aspect of Order in a powerful embrace and tore her asunder.
The Universe quaked and shook with the death throes of Order herself, as with her death her creations were also threatened with extinction. Chaos tore his wife into tiny pieces, ignoring the destruction of the Form and Function around him. But, before his wife could completely die, Chaos breathed life into each one of the pieces of her body, creating their children. To these children, he charged with the task of completing his beloved’s mission, though instead of only one of them to do all of the tasks, he gave each child dominion over one aspect of Form and Function.
To the Aspect of Life he gave dominion over the creation of consciousness and life itself.
To the Aspect of Death he gave dominion over the destruction of that life and the lands beyond.
To the Aspect of Fate he gave dominion over the winds of chance and the ability to change them in order to suit her needs.
To the Aspect of Time he gave dominion over the passage of moments and the ability to form them into one linear stream.
To the Aspect of Wild he gave dominion over the primal urges of the universe and those beings that would be created from it.
To the Aspect of the Elements he gave dominion over the forces of the building blocks of Everything.
To the Aspect of Space he gave dominion over the distances between here and there and what may lay in between the Everything and the Nothingness.
