Three short stories that take place in a day. There is one constant character, I’m not going to give that away. I’ve been trying for a year to get this story just right and never really have been able to. There originally were more stories, these three are the only ones to make it through heavy editing. Enjoy anyway.

The Bus

Nothing for the past few weeks seems to have been going well. Today is no different, I got on the bus, it was full, and no one would move for me to sit down. I’m due to give birth in three weeks so I’m popping at my seams and everyone is so stuck up that they don’t seem to notice I even exist.

“You may have my seat miss.” His grin is so striking, not to mention he’s courteous.

            “Are you sure?”

“Of course I am. I wouldn’t have offered it if I weren’t.” I can’t help but smile at his wit.

“Thank you sir.” I take the seat he vacated for me relaxing into it, thankful to be off my feet.

The Dog

I hear the doorbell ring; I don’t think anything of it. My child runs to answer it, I remind her to check to see whom it is. I hear our dog’s name from her lips. Our dog doesn’t know how to ring the doorbell. Before I make it to the door I hear her fling it against the wall. Her cries let me know that her puppy is not ok. The man holding it apologizes that it wouldn’t make it and how he wished he could do something. I’m not listening though, he killed our dog and my daughter will be devastated, my husband will use it as a reason for no more pets, that she wasn’t ready for pets. Before I can even think about how he feels I’m yelling at him for hitting the dog, the dog I wasn’t even that fond of but she loves it. He only shrugs and hands me a piece of paper apologizing again and wishing me good luck on finding a new dog just as pretty. It isn’t until later that I look at the paper; it’s a license plate number.
