A short story I did for my english class. Hope you enjoy.
I smelled something. Something good, something familiar. What was it though? Then I realized what it was. Pancakes! I felt like I had been jump-started from my sleep. I bolted upright and jumped out of bed. I ran so fast that I slammed into the wall. Shaking having all grogginess punched out of me, I rushed downstairs to the kitchen where my brother and sister were already eating at the table. “Hey Andy, some weirdo just ran downstairs” my brother teased.
That was me. Andrew Edward Stanton IV. Apparently Andrew Stanton I thought it would be cool to name his son after himself. Maybe number II thought he would get some payback and start a tradition. Well, I’ve lived as number four for seven years. I guess I can suck it up for another 93. Thanks a lot number one.
Thump thump thump. “Sounds like Argos is awake” mom said. Argos is my dog. Mom says he’s “the family dog”, but everybody knows he likes me the best. A few years ago, dad found hum in the woods and brought him home. We all loved having a dog around, and decided to keep him.
I finished devouring my pancakes. Argos also stole a few pancakes, accompanied by shouts from my mother. Mom said she would make another batch for dad, before he went to work at the mill. I decided to take Argos and go hunting for frogs. My brother and I always have a competition to see who can catch the most each month. He won last month, so I was determined to win this time.
Filled with energy from the pancakes, I grabbed my net and bucket, and set out with Argos. We ventured into the forest, and went straight for the swampy part. We wandered around for almost half an hour before, finally, I spotted a frog sitting on a lily-pad in a pond at the bottom of a small hill. I ran full speed with Argos racing behind me. I knew I was going to catch it. Only a few feet away, and it still hadn’t spotted me!
All of a sudden, I felt something hit me in the leg. Then I was flying. I was sailing forward, just gliding over the ground. I was in a trance. And then I came back into reality. I was falling. Falling really fast. And there was an agonizing pain in my left leg.
