A fictional story about a young girl’s dream becoming reality.
Suitable for eight to 10 year olds.
Nine year old Jessie enters every competition she can.
Yet she has never won one.
When the latest about her favourite show The Pony Ranch needs great drawings,
who better to ask for help but her best friend Alyce?.
The only thing is, Alyce is scared of ponies.
Jessie gets so wrapped up in winning that she loses sight of something more important – her friendship with Alyce.
A short chapter book about friendship.
The new competition.
‘WOW, that poster was really awesome,’ enthused Lisa from Crazy Saturday. ‘Congratulations Mandy for doing all that great work’
Jessie flung herself on the floor in front of the television. I’ll never win a competition, she thought.
‘Mum, Jessie’s hogging the telly!’ wailed Jessie’s brother, Bailey.
‘Jessie,’ called their mum. ‘Not so close.’
Jessie dragged herself away from the television.
‘Wow,’ said Bailey. ‘Look at all the cool prizes that girl’s won.’
Jessie didn’t answer; she was scrambling around on the coffee table, looking for a pen so she could write down the details of the next competition.
‘Sshh!’ Jessie yelled as Lisa began explaining that fans of the number one show on Crazy Saturday, The Pony Ranch, were invited to enter this competition. Fans need to write down, in under 150 words why they think they should be the ones to meet the cast and crew of the show. They also need to draw pictures from The Pony Ranch. The winning entry would then get to meet the cast and star on the show.
Awesome, thought Jessie. I’d love to meet the cast of The Pony Ranch. And I know who can help me win – the best artist in school.
The Best Artist.
‘Sorry about the competition Jessie I only got your text this morning,’ said Alyce Lee when Jessie walked into the classroom. ‘Dad took me camping and my battery died.’
‘Don’t you ever give up?’ said Peter Simpson, chuckling.
‘Sshh,’ Alyce said.
‘I thought you were staying at your Mum’s?’ said Jessie.
‘She’s gone to Sydney for work,’ said Alyce. ‘I’m staying with Dad for a coupla weeks.’
‘Anyway, there’s a new competition,’ Jessie whispered, turning her back on Peter.
Just then the second bell rang and Mrs Ling hurried them out for school assembly.
Australians all let us Rejoice… blared out through the loud speaker.
‘What is it?’ Alyce asked, hiding her mouth with her hand.
