The first day of Junior High is full of anxiety.

Oh no this is terrible.  This is just terrible; It is my first day at William Jennings Jr. High School.  I have been worrying about this day for 3 months but a letter I received 2 weeks before school started has really caused my stomach to knot up and my breathing to go eratic.

Dear Mr. O’Neill welcome to William Jennings Jr. High School.  We hope you are looking forward to your new adventure in Jr. High as much as we are looking forward to having you here with us.  7th grade is an exciting time and we think you will really enjoy learning all there is to learn and we invite you to explore the many clubs and activities that will be available.  We have included your schedule below.

8:00 am 7th grade English

9:05 am Social Studies

10:05 am Physical education all students are expected to bring gold gym shorts a white T shirt and a towel

11:05 am Computers and the modern world

12;05 Lunch

1:35 pm Intro to Algebra

2:35 pm World History

3:30 end of school day.

I couldn’t believe it!  Did that say bring a towel and a change of clothes?  Do they expect me to shower with all of these older kids?  Have you ever seen Jr. High Kids they are huge.  They are monstrous.  Oh my God I am doomed.

My map shows that my first hour class is in room c 8.  Apparently the building is divided into four sections a, b, c, and d that is easy enough.  Ok the library is in the middle I have got that.  Now I am in front of section b.  do I go left or right.  North which way is north.  Couldn’t they put a damn sign up in the hallways.  Oh my god these kids are huge.  They aren’t kids at all they are more like adults but meaner and covered with acne.  I should just ask someone.

“Excuse me where is room c8?”

“it’s in C section you retard.”

“uh where is C section.”

“Look at your map idiot.”

Well that didn’t help.  Not even a little.  Ok  50/50 chance, there is a pretty girl I think I will go that way.  Wow I didn’t know there would be so many girls in Jr. High.  I mean in 6th grade we had girls but these are women. This might not be so bad.

If its any consolation, girls went through the same agonies over the size of their chest! Oh what a painful experience adolescence can be. Great story.

sorry but this brings back very disturbing memories of school.

I changed schools too many times and became blase about it, but fear of the unknow is familiar to us all.

I should have realized this was an entry in the challenge.
Very well written, I am sure this exact scene has played out many times.

LoL – you’re a mad bugger. This was great fun. I have never understood why it assumed men don’t like privacy. Communal bloody showers – a freaking disgrace!

Like Cafftee said, girls had the same experience. I never wanted to shower in front of all of those other girls. Never wanted anyone staring at me. I always tried to get out of it in some way, until the teacher had an aide checking off your name as you came out of the shower. I started taking two towels into the shower with me. One to cover up with and the other to dry of with as discreetly as possible. Very good story of what it is like to be in Junior HIgh.

I remember those days well. Imaginative and humorous work conveying the anxiety they brought so many of us.

LMFAO, good one, Brad. Serious nakedness anxiety in those days. I am glad I never have to do that again.

Puck and I were laughing at this thing and then Puck said …

Hooo so, you and Puckett are studying at the same Junior High School? (Unbelievable).

Interesting story for the challenge. I remember how I hated showering with the girls in my PE class. I actually managed to get out of PE one year. The teacher let me off the hook by using me to send love notes to another teacher at the school. I spent PE class as a messenger for the two teachers. They ended up getting married, but a few years later she left him for another woman.

Since i played all three sports in school, it became common place for me to shower openly. I was very apprehensive though my first time like you conveyed in this well written piece. No privacy to be had if you were an athlete. Nice story for the challenge. Well done Bradley.
