A story which I heard, for sharing.

2 men, Jack and Joe, they were colleagues, both working as junior staff of an organisation with stressful jobs.  They were both unhappy with their jobs, but hesitant whether to quit as they lacked courage to do so.  One day, a friend told both of them that there was a wise old man who could give them some golden advice, and through experiences, whoever approached this wise old man for advice usually became successful in their lives,  but they were warned that this wise old man had a very weird character, they must be very patient to gain success.

The wise old man had no telephone, no hand phone (especially i-phone), no computer, no laptop.  With the address given, both men went to the old man’s house, climbed up to the 20th storey (sorry, no elevator nor escalator).  They both knocked the door many times till the door nearly broken but no response (sorry, no door bell).  They knew the old man was at home as they could hear some music coming from the house, the old man must be enjoying his life relaxing, listening to music, or maybe he was showering, or maybe he was deaf, could not hear the knocking, maybe he has died inside the house?  ”Be Patient”, Joe said to Jack, “Yes, be patient”, Jack answered Joe. They decided to wait.  Finally the door was opened (very strange, when they knocked, no response, when they stopped, the old man opened the door, no logic).

Without saying anything, the old man just walked into his house and sat on the bed which was situated at the living room (sorry, no bed room), as the old man did not closed the door, Jack and Joe assumed that they could enter, so they went in uninvited.  Of course no drinks served.  They asked the old man, whether they should quit their job.  No response, strange, what was going on.  The old man with the eyes closed sitting on the bed, probably doing his meditation.  ”Be patient”, both reminded each other, so they sat there (sorry, no sofa, no chair, just sat on the floor) to wait for the old man to finish his meditation.

My goodness, this was quite a surprise and the suspense got me glued, and the moral behind the bowl of rice made me shiver with excitement. Do you know what? You really can write!

I really enjoyed that story. I also found it very inspiring. If we are patient enough in life and don’t give up we can all achieve our goals. A great piece.

I figured that the old man was tired of walking up 20 floors.
I wonder who is the MP for his constituency. No lifts nor
escalators? Must complain already.:) Fried rice or Vietnam popiah
would be nice for his guest. Funny stuff StarP.

Agree with Leo, you’ve written this wonderfully! Confucius would definitely pale in your wisdom, o’ twinkling star! Maybe I should go to this old geezer for advice… after all, I love a bowl of rice for dinner… :)
