Singing is something that everyone does either in public or private. Karaoke gives you the perfect platform to indulge yourself.

Have come to realize that each one of us has got this secret desire to sing, if not in public than in private, if not in an auditorium than in the toilet – but sing we will.

With the advent of Karaoke people have got a little more adventurous as well and do try their singing at public places. Thankfully these places are usually liquor bars where either the singer or the people around are drunk – so to hell with singing in tune or tone.

Was at a party at a friend’s place the other day and Karaoke was the flavor of the evening. The song in question was “Hotel California “. A little kid, all of 4 years sang it first & it was more like a recitation of a nursery rhyme  –“Well, I.. know.. a.. place.. where.. love.. comes.. easy.. “. Everyone cheered him like he was a child prodigy who would go far in a singing career. Strange, but when a kid performs – awful or dreadful – we always praise him to the sky. For the next few years this kid is going to embarrass himself with his singing but will have no clue about it whatsoever.

Next his older brother who must have been around 12 took over & sang it like a rock star even belting out the guitar sounds from deep down his throat for effect. “He is future of Rock music “they all agreed and he won’t need any musical instruments either. Not to be left behind, finally, the mother took over & honestly it was not clear whether she was singing or crying!!!!. All the guests agreed that she should let the singing for her sons and stick to cooking in the kitchen.

At that moment it struck me that all you need is to get a family of 4 to sing the popular songs  and instantly you have four re-mixed versions for every song. Additionally, every time you ask them to sing the same song, the chances are that you will have a newer version.

Singing is a great therapy for loneliness and stress and thanks to Karaoke – the music is provided. Go ahead, pick up a mike and free your vocal chords to the songs of your choice. You will surely feel liberated and surprised that singing is no big a deal after all. Who knows you may end up on the music charts someday with a re-mix version of your own.
