About a girl that hates her life and runs away.
Katy grew up in a small house on a hill, with her step mother. Katy’s step mother was very mean.
Every time Katy did something her step mother would say; Katy Don’t!
Katy Don’t open the door to strangers that come calling. Katy Don’t pet the dog from down the holler. Katy Don’t go out side with out you shoes. Katy Don’t play in the garden. There was always something.
Katy’s step mother would hit her with the broom and make her eat off the floor. She even locked her in her room.
On day Katy’s step mother forgot to lock the door when she went out to town and Katy ran away. She had her raggedy dress and holly shoes and ran away.
Katy ran down the rode and got a ride in a car. Then she rode a bus.
After that she took a train. Then after that she took a ride in an airplane. She flew so high she could see everything.
When she could go no farther she stopped. She walked and came across a small creak, there she took off her shoes and walk threw the cool water. She sat and wondered what to do next.
How will I eat, where will I sleep? She asked herself. She sat there for hours enjoying doing what she wanted to do.
Just before the night fell Katy stepped on a peace of glass and cut her foot. As she was taking the glass from her foot a man appeared and said; Hello!
Katy answered; Hello!
The man said; My name is Ned, and you look like you need help.
Katy replied; My name is Katy Don’t, and yes I need help.
So Ned helped Katy, he took the glass from her foot. Then he took her to his place. Ned gave her food on a plate. She was lost, but she ate. The Ned made her a place she could sleep.
When morning came Ned fixed breakfast. After they ate, he asked; Can I take you home?
Katy told him; I have no home for you to take me to.
Ned gave her a place to stay, telling her she could stay as long as she wanted.
Katy learned lots of things from Ned. She learned that not ever thing she did was Don’t.
She learned to cook and clean. She learned to work in the garden.
Katy and Ned got married and lived happily ever after.
