About kittens…

The games that kittens play are very important. Have you ever wondered why a mother cat will let her kittens pounce on her tail as she wags it back and forth? She probably knows she is training them how to pounce on mice and other small animals.

Jenny does not know it, but when she ties a piece of paper to the end of a string and lets Pretty bat it back and forth, she is training her kitten how to catch low-flying moths and other insects. When Pretty is older, Jenny will see Pretty leap ten feet to pounce upon an insect in the grass. And she will hardly ever miss her target!

As Pretty gets older, Jenny will find that is she makes a scratching sound against her kitten’s box, Pretty will come stalking as if to pounce. Why? Pretty is pretending to play “cat and mouse.” You see, mice and rats make a scratching sound, and Pretty is pretending to catch one. Theis reminds Jenny of how she plays “cops and robbers” with her brother!

Cats are very clean pets. Since cats are always washing themselves, Jenny will never need to give her cat a bath unless Pretty falls into something very dirty.

Cats are also very grateful. Jenny will be amazed to see Pretty walk across a crowded toy shelf without knocking a single toy off!

When the flower garden blooms in spring, how Jenny will laugh to see Pretty sniffing the flowers and the catnip! Cats cannot smell as well as dogs, but they do love sweet smells!
