About kittens…

As soon as they were home, Jenny lined a cardboard box with newspapers. Then she padded it with soft rags. Pretty curled up to take a nap. Young kittens sleep most of the day, so Jenny could not hold her kitten often.

Jenny should feed her kitten four small meals a day. She should also give her kitten plenty of warm milk and fresh water. What else should Jenny know about her kitten? Let’s find out.

When kittens are born, their eyes are closed. Because of this, we say newborn kittens are blind. They are helpless and cannot even purr! The mother stays close beside her kittens. She hardly leaves them at all. As she washes them with her rough, pink tongue, she lets them drink her warm milk. They listen to her happy purr as she takes care of them.

When the kittens are about a week old, they purr for the very first time. After the kittens are eight, nine, or ten days old, their eyes open and they see their mother for the very first time. They are very content and happy.

When they are two weeks old, the kittens start walking around on very shaky legs. And when they are three weeks old, they begin to play with each other.
