The third chapter in my serial novel.

Tom had never seen anything like the cylinder before, he couldn’t even begin to understand how such a relatively recent artifact could have a patina on it that was so old.  Nowhere in the Neolithic era would there had been the technology to create such an artifact, nor would the familiar symbol of the swastika have appeared so early.  Tom decided that there was some kind of mistake that had happened and that the patina had to be some kind of natural occurrence.  He would have to go to the site and look into the mystery himself, but for the moment he would write off the patina as a freak of nature.  He would need more information and would check to see if Lynn and Rena were being honest about the discovery of the cylinder.

Lynn worked hard to copy the pictographs completely and was hopeful that she would be able to interpret them without much difficulty.  The reality was that the pictographs had never been seen before.  They were older than anything Lynn had ever before seen, it would be a difficult if not impossible task to interpret the pictographs.  Rena decided that she would search through the archives and see if there was any information on the pictographs and the monoliths.  After two fruitless hours of searching she gave up and sat down.  There before her at eye level was an answer to some of their problems.  Before Rena lay a manila envelope that was covered in about two inches of dust, and on the cover of the envelope was written the words Top Secret followed by Nazi activity in the lower Oregon.  She couldn’t believe her eyes.  What was this doing here she thought to herself.

Tom worked on the cylinder for a few hours to try and determine if there was a way to open the cylinder.  In the end he was left confused at the purpose of the cylinder.  He had not seen anything like it before.  He tried to x-ray the cylinder and nothing showed up on the x-ray so he thought that it was made out of lead but further testing proved that to be untrue as well.  The metal was some kind of steel alloy that he was unfamiliar with.  While he was standing there wondering where the cylinder came from, it dawned on him that the cylinder was some kind of device.  “Yes” he thought to himself.  Rena entered the room and approached Tom.  “Hey, you’ll never believe what I found,” she said to him.
