Believe in the impossible.

She finally works her way off the couch, she stands slightly bent to the left leaning on a nearby shelf.

“Alright what did they promise you if you help them? Money or a vacation?”

“I am very serious –I know you don’t believe in god or evil but now you need to believe now, right now.”

A loud knocking starts and increases in intensity.

She walks around slowly looking for a hidden recorder or camera or something to indicate a prank was afoot.

Talking out loud to the room in general she says “Hah, I know what you guys are up to – you can’t fool me and you sure can’t scare me.” She continues, come on out let’s forget this and have a drink.

The knocking stops and heavy breathing takes its place.

Juarez moves quickly to pack his few belongings and leave.

“I am sorry misses Anna, I cannot work here anymore, I value my soul.” He says

breathlessly. Please believe me and call a priest or something , you need help.’

Juarez is now by the door, removing the house keys from his key ring, his hands shake visibly as he moves.

“Man it is freezing in here.” she says to no one in particular

Juarez groans and says “I must go now.”

“Ok, great joke!, she calls out.

A cold breeze rushes at her causing her to pause and shiver. Something causes her to remain frozen in the spot where she stands.

“Juarez, enough is enough the joke is over, please come back here and get to work.”

Juarez wipes away several tears – he moves to her quickly hugs her and says this is no joke and I have to leave.”

She holds onto him firmly not allowing him to pull away, he struggles gently not wanting to be rough.

“I know this is a prank, please stop now -this and a hangover at the same time is too much.”

He finally pulls away looking at her bloodshot eyes and says “I’ll pray for you.”

“Juarez, I just don’t believe you, you have to prove it.”

As if on queue another blast of freezing air invades the space around her.

Juarez looks behind her, screams  “No!” he clutches at the left side of his chest and before he hits the ground for the last time in his life. He manages to say …

“Look behind you.”
