The Dominican republics holiday are celebrated every 1st Sunday of the month of October. This is celebrated in honor of the town’s patron saint, Our Lady Of The Most Holy Rosary. It features various sports and beauty competitions, Street dancing presentation contests trade fair and annual marathon and cycling tournament. A fun-filled activity festival events the costumes worn are magnificent and the laughter and joy is contagious, male traditional folk dancers and beautiful Dominican Republic girls dress in Parade Costume to celebrate the many celebrations throughout the year. On every day of the year, their seems to be some kind of celebration somewhere hosted by local municipalities or all inclusive hotels.


The majority of the celebrations are surrounded by the Fiesta Patroness , they are celebrations that are held in honor of the Patron Saint. Every Town has it’s own festival of the Patron Saint, and on an appointed date each year, locals start the celebration which includes a wooden image of the Patron Saint that is carried all over the town by men and women. Donned in colorful costumes, accentuated with indigenous and recycled materials, the participants danced with the lively rhythm of music, and joyous parades, are part of the celebrations, unmindful of the heat of the sun. The festive mood became more in tensed during the showdown when the participants skillfully utilized their props and amazed the audience with their breathtaking stunts. Since judging was based on street performance and showdown competed for the much coveted prizes. So the performers must showed their best to please the members of the Board of Judges.

“La’s festas Patroness” varies slightly in the different towns. Samana and Higuey are known for the most colorful and artful. If you are lucky enough to find one of these local festivals, join the celebration, and have fun.Tourist are highly recommended to join in the celebrations.
