This is the second lesson from my “8 Lessons” cycle.
Be open to new things and they will come to you! Allow yourself to try something different. Life is too short!

Be open to new things. Leave the stereotypes behind. Discover the new You!

As we were approaching the Kenmore Square in Boston, I knew my life was going to change significantly. I felt happy for the first time since my arrival. I was sitting in the back seat buckled up wondering when that car was going to stop in the middle of the road and fall apart, and at the same time observing the surroundings. There were 4 of us in the car: Mona from Poland, Sara from Germany, Xochyl from Costa Rica, and myself. The streets were bright, there were tons of people, thousands of cars, and I absolutely loved it. I can honestly say that this was the moment when I decided I was going to stay for a little bit more than 1 year. Maybe for life.

Boston is amazing. I always say it was a love from the first sight. It is a little bit European but at the same time very American. It has a beautiful architecture, people are stylish, drive nice cars and it is just a great town to live in. The living expenses are much higher than in other parts of the country but it is oh so worth it. One of my favorite things to do when I am in downtown is to grab my camera and walk around taking pictures, especially of the Public Garden or Public Garden. Or to get a cup of coffee and lay down under a tree in a park. Or to go to a bookstore and spend there half a day browsing the newest releases or photo books from around the world and dream that one day I will go there. Or…there are so many things to do.

Bostonians are little strange. You never know if the person you just met will turn out to be very nice or very rude. Some of them wear long fur coats and rain boots and some of them hundred percent organic cotton jumpsuits and others look like they just came out of a Burberry photo shoot. What I like about them is that you can wear whatever in the streets and no one will look at you because if you think you are sporting the tallest Mohawk, you are wrong. Look behind you and you will notice a person sporting neon one. You lost.

Newbury Street, the trendiest place in town, is always busy. We are in a recession? What recession? There is not recession on Newbury Street. Women wear expensive dresses, Channel Chance, and alligator purses. Cartier, Valentino, and Armani sell like fresh bread. The chances that you will meet Big Papi cruising in his newest Ferrari are pretty high. You will notice his diamond earrings shine from a far distance.

But on that very same street you will also meet some beggars, people that stopped by Upper Crust to get a slice of cheese pizza (the best pizza in town!), artists, families taking a stroll this famous street, or the Duck Tour driving by and quacking real quack.

This city is like no other, and I have been to quite few. The most significant parts are South End, North End, Back Bay, Beacon Hill, Financial District, and Downtown. Each part is very specific and each part offers something different.

About a week after I met Xochyl, we decided to take the T to downtown as none of us been there since our arrival to the States.
