A southern take on a snow day
Most of us here in south do not get to see snow very often. It usually does not snow far south at all. Once outside of Atlanta it does not snow usually but maybe every 10 years or so. But southern Georgia over the last 3 years has gotten its share of snow.
Our snow down here can not in any way be compared to up north’s. We are lucky if we get half an inch and that it sticks for more than a day. But we enjoy the snow while it lasts.
We do not know how to drive on the snow so most all businesses and schools, universities, and stores close up till the snow has melted.
The kids love to play in it. We adults like to look at it through our windows. We all take pictures and videos of the snow as it falls. The fresh white snow just has a way of transporting us to another place. Things seem a little quieter and a lot more peaceful when it snows.
As much as our bosses hate to hear us all call in and say we are not coming in they know it will do no good to complain. We southerners refuse to drive in it. Over the last three years we have had all kinds of snow from the wet kind to the dry kind. Either way when my children come in from playing in it their clothes are wet.
Think I remember that my children one year used up all their clothes from having to change every time they came in and had to resort to using my clothes to return to their fun adventures in the snow.
Last year I took a photos thinking I would use some of them to make my own Christmas cards. But I forgot. This year if it snows down here I am going to take more photos and hang some on the wall. I have a collection of fall leaf photos that I have shot through the years but no snow photos on my wall. Maybe this year I can get some of the kids playing on film. That would look good up on the wall.
Every year that it does snow I go outside and to the surprise of my children I make a snow angel. They either think I am too old to play in the snow or maybe too old to get down on the ground and flap my arms and legs like a fool. I love my snow angels.
Our dog a German Sheppard/Husky loves the snow. Guess he feels like it is old home week when it snows. However the neighbor’s cat has a hard time coping with all the snow. Last year we felt so sorry for her we turned on the car to let it get hot so she would have a warm place to sit. On top of the car. Her little paw prints were especially cute in the snow on the windshield leading up to the roof of the car.
