A glimps into a families life.

I knew once that I had looked at the crest of Snowy Mountain, that this was the place for me. And I always returned  here whenever I could. I brought my girlfriend here and and we both began to marvel at the beauty that was all around us. About a year form then she became my wife, and we got married on that mountain. On the crest lay a fallen tree, big and round that made for a good seat. Picnic and good times fell on and around that tree, and that lasted for years to come. Three children later the fun continued. We even bought land here and built a summer and winter cabin.

From the time that the children were old enough to write, I ask them to write a letter to my wife and I each time they went to Snowy Mountain, and put down there memories of the year and there life. Then   the last  surviving family member would take the letters and read them as a memorial to the others.

For nearly fifty years the letters have been written, even from my wife and I. We wrote about the good and bad an the in between, but the tradition continued. It was hard at first to take the time, but as time went on it became like taking a bath or washing clothes.

Tommy died early in the war, and we morned his loss. but we continued to share our thoughts and memories. Then Susan got married, and moved away, had two children in who I am proud. Then Amy grew up and married, and had  children too. The grandchildren come and visit as often as they can but it is not like the old times.

Life has not been a smooth ride for my wife and I , health problems and money have effected us in a moderate way. We managed and took life as it came and made the best of each moment. And each time we came to Snowy Mountain we renewed the closeness that brought us together the first time.

About five years Susan and her children got killed in a car accident. Drunk driver pulled out in front of them and pushed the car in front of a train, there were no survivors. The sadness built up and my wife died of heart failure. Amy is the last child now and may she live a long time.
