This is a fictional short story about the adventure of a small group of kids.

This writing is not an article per se, as I have decided to write a short story in its place.  This is a fictional piece and hopefully the first of several stories I will publish.

Not too long ago there was a very small town.  It was full of friendly people, much like the world we live in today.  Things were simple in this secluded town; there was no war, no arms races, and not even much technology.

There was a group of kids who were the best of friends.  They often found themselves exploring outside of the city, dreaming of bigger things out there.  Every time they searched they could only ever find caverns in the vast desert surrounding them.  With their strong imaginations they were able to sculpt one of these caverns into the perfect hangout; it was far off from the town, which was just a speck in the distance.

One day while playing in the cavern something began to emerge in the distance.  The kids were very excited, what could it be it was huge and moving towards them.  It got closer and closer, could it be a huge caravan?  It was so very large and elegant; it looked more like a floating city.  The kids ran over to investigate running through a large archway.  As soon as they stepped through the archway they felt a refreshingly cool breeze.

Upon walking a little further the kids ran into a strange man.  He was very nice and introduced himself as the owner of the Travelling City of Dreams, a place where all of their dreams came true.  They had never seen anything like this; they could eat whatever they dreamt up, they could have pets of all shapes and sizes, and they could even fly.  If they could imagine it and it was good they could have it.

They didn’t even realize how much time had passed.  Eventually one of the kids, James, wanted to go home.  The rest of his friends tried to convince him to stay, but he wanted to see his family.  He promised to come back as soon as his family knew he was alright, after all who knew how long they had been there.  On his way out, James was confronted by the owner of the Travelling City of Dreams.  “Why do you want to leave me beautiful city?” he asked.  “I just want to see my mom and dad, then I’ll come back,” James replied.  The owner of the Travelling City of Dreams looked concerned, “I cannot force you to stay here, but if you do leave you can never return to the happiness you found here.”
