This is a fictional short story about the adventure of a small group of kids.

James ran back through the archway, which was now very scary looking.  The monster chased him screaming.  James closed a large steel door behind him as he ran down a hall.  He glanced around the room he had entered and his friends were strapped to the odd looking chairs.  They were still young, but had tubes and all kinds of machines hooked up to them.  They looked so weak; James began freeing them as fast as he could.

Now that they were free they were laying unconscious on the cold floor.  With James’ prompting they slowly began to wake up.  Once they were all up and conscious again they forced the door open and ran to the exit.  They stumbled passed the archway, the monster charging after them.  The monster began to pass through the archway.  Its arm passed first, and quickly melted away.  It couldn’t exist in the outside world. Screaming, it staggered back away from the exit.

It let out a bone curdling shriek, “you’ve doomed me!  I need you children to survive.  James you stole them from me!  I gave you kids everything!”  James furiously yelled back, “you were using us as fuel, in order to keep you and your ship alive in our world!  We won’t let you trick us, we will not let you drain our existence in order to sustain your own!”

The ship began to fade away.  The monster let out shrieks of pain, promising others like him would return to harvest all humans.  James asked the monster calmly, “how did you get here in the first place?  What makes you think others can make it here?”  Pacing back and forth the monster shouted back, “you should know James; you were the one who came to us.  We crossed over here through you.  We’ve done it before, we can do it again!”  As cool as could be James replied, “You think so?  What if I simply chose not to be a bridge?  My dreams are my own and I am my own, eventually all of your people will vanish.  You see humans are not the life draining parasites, you are.”

The ship faded away, accompanied by the screams of the monster.  James and his friends all returned home and vowed never to speak about what they had seen.  The last thing they wanted was for James to once again become a bridge.  The kids enjoyed fun filled lives.  They all remembered what had happened, but never broke that promise to hold their tongues.  They all carried out their lives with an unspoken gratitude for James.
