A short story.

Awareness reestablished at 06:00:23:11:13 UTC Protbot said. The Worldsnet server I´m currently in had been offline for scheduled maintenance. But now it´s online again. Sadly, that is. I had transferred myself into this old server on purpose. I had hope that may be it wouldn´t be able to boot up again. But of course…it did boot up without any problems. It had taken me a long time to find this old server that was left over from the time when Worldsnet was still called the Internet. But what happened to my manners? I should introduce myself since I´m using the old FT-Protocol. FT means “Fast Text” by the way. Well…my name is Julius Stinch. My age is irrelevant, because of what use it that data if there isn´t even a living breathing body anymore. You probably know who I am by now anyway. Yep…”the guy who was the first user of SoulTrans”. Let me tell you something: Transferring your soul into Worldsnet sounded great. Especially when you consider that I was dieing when they offered me to be their guinea pig. Why do I want to die? Well, being immortal became boring. I can learn anything there is to learn. I can even connect my virtual brain to may of Worldsnets server CPUs at once and create new knowledge myself. I can go anywhere I want…but I can never leave. I´m trapped inside the net. I can meet other SoulTrans users but they have the luxury to be able to decide to just delete themselves. I can´t…because I´m “the one who did it first”. SoulTrans needs me for its advertising. Possible new user – connecting live voice chat. Speak of the devil. Protbot again. Part of the deal with SoulTrans was that I would have to talk to possible customers on the net. In return I didn´t have to pay them anything.

Chat in Progress:

Hi Julius. My name is Sarah. I want to ask: Is it save? “Hello Sarah, yes the system SoulTrans uses is very save. Your soul won´t be disconnected from your physical body before SoulTrans made sure that its connection to Worldsnet was successful. But I suggest to be really sure that you want to do this.”
