My contest piece for the international speech category.
Those were the days when I needed a little spark of light. Those were the days when I had to regain an ounce of hope. Those were the days when I wanted to get out of those dark tunnels.
Then I turned to the other side and saw a glint of light. With loads of hard work, a bunch of begging prayers and a pinch of luck, I was able to finish college as a scholar. And the spark of luck continued to grow a little brighter.
It is not mine to brag but I tell you, I almost easily got more than one job at a time. Now, the green pastures of PASAR opened for me and pampered me.
Now I won’t have to beg for my cousins’ used belongings. Now I can buy anything I wanted. I can buy anything not just for myself but for my little siblings and for my cousins as well. More than that, I was able to finance the schooling of my two sisters in college.
I still have dark tunnels in my life, but somehow I have seen the direction of the light. Dark tunnels are inevitably part of life. It is there that we may strive harder to get out of its nothingness. It is there to make us thirst for more. It is there that we learn to appreciate more when we see the light.
And whenever I open my eyes in the middle of the emptiness, I hold to my little hope that at the end of every tunnel, there will always be a light.
