Just a crummy little short story of stuff that’s been on my mind.

Anna wanted to wake up one day in a world that felt like she belonged in it. To her, life was just too lonely and sad. She wanted to feel like the people around her loved her instead of criticized everything she did. There wasn’t a day that went by that Ana wasn’t judged or hurt by someone. She was tired of it.

Anna’s mother was always on her case about how she felt Anna lived her life. If she was working a part time job, her mother would tell her how she could be doing so much better. If she were living in a low income house, her mother would tell her how ashamed she is to have her daughter living in such a crummy place. Anna’s fiance way the same way. If she had a bad day and needed someone to open up to, he wasn’t there for her. He thought she complained and nagged too much. She felt she had to be someone she isn’t just to make everyone happy.

Some days Anna wished she were like Alice, be able to just escape her world by falling down a rabbit hole into a Wonderland she could call her own. “Why can’t I just be able to do that?” she would think to herself. “Alice is lucky. If something bad happens she can just run away to Wonderland where everything is okay and peaceful. I wish I could do that.”

One day, Anna decided to do things differently. Instead of getting ready for work, she called off and told them she quit. She packed her bags while her fiance was at work and just left. She didn’t know where she was going or what she was going to do but she got in her car and just drove away with what money she had. She kept driving and driving, occasionally stopping for food and gas. Eventually she found herself in a place she thought she could call home.

Anna started working on making a new life for herself. She got her own apartment, a new job, different phone. She spend a long time being happy, but slowly she started realizing she was lonely. After being there almost a year, she had made new friends, but it wasn’t home and soon she realized she was missing those who love her. Again, she decided it was time to move.

She made her way back to the only place she’d ever known as home. When she got there, she went back to the house that her and her fiance were living in. It was empty. She called her mother, but no answer. She tried calling her fiance. Again, no answer. Anna decided to go down to the bowling alley where her and her fiance used to hang out. He was there with another girl.

Anna was hurt but what could she expect? It was her own fault. She is the one that up and left, not him. Could she blame him for moving on? She walked up to him and he excused himself to talk to her. He told her how he was shocked to see her again. He told her all about how he was scared as hell when she left, that he thought she was dead and that he waited for a long time hoping to hear from her. She told him all about how she felt before she left. She apologized for leaving, but she knew it wouldn’t make a difference. He had found someone new.

Anna left the bowling alley and rented a hotel for the night until she could get an apartment the next day. After making arrangements to get a new apartment, she settled in and started looking for a new job. It turned out that her old job wanted her back because they never really found someone who could take Anna’s place and it just so happened they just let someone go and had an opening. She felt almost at home again.

About a month or so later, Anna bumped into her ex while shopping. She tried not to look at him too much out of fear that she would start crying. He gently lifted her chin so he could see into her eyes and he told her about how now that she was back, he still wanted to be with her and things would be different this time around. Anna willingly agreed to take him back and they again, started their lives together. This time Anna was truly happy. She finally found her Wonderland.
