How we look and the interpretation of our looks to different people. the well cut suit, the jogging shoes, the bikini on a tall slim lady, what it says to us…..
Do you know your looks matter? Of course you do! I mean, do you know you needed the right look for everything? I am sure you know you need a good look to get a good job and a great look to get a better job but what about other things? Like a riding a bike, going swimming, visiting the gym, shopping in a mall, shopping in the farmer’s market, drinking water, eating at home, eating out, eating at a particular time of the day, going visiting, friends or grandparents, going to the movies, partying, burial ceremonies, all that and more; but more than needing a good look you need a right one.
I went to the salon today with one of my friends and as I put my make up on, I realised I was overdressed for trip. Realising my status, I toned down my makeup and changed my outfit for the fourth time. Looking in the mirror, I thought I looked good; as always, but it was not quite the look I wanted. I didn’t know what was off about my appearance but I knew there was something. Anyway, i was saved some time when my friend practically bit my head off for wasting her time and even more of her time; so asking her if I was rightly dressed was out of it. She had the “I couldn’t even have cared less if you came downstairs without a head and leeches were on you” look.
Turns out I was rightly dressed for the salon! Why you ask? Simple, my hair was messed up! In a bid to have the perfect appearance I messed up my hair and didn’t realise it until I noticed all the attention from the hair stylists were only directed towards me! With what was left of my pride, I asked for a styling comb and put my hair in order. After that, it wasn’t hard to remain invisible.
Because of my welcome, I decided to observe closely, everyone that passed by the salon and those that came into the salon while my friend was getting her hair done.
Judge me if you will but these are my findings and of course, feel free to comment on them:
Single girl on the phone: nice hair do, no hand bag and wearing a nice pair of slippers; probably looking for a friend that has lost his or her way. In retrospect, she could have been going to get call credit or even taking a stroll; then again with the sun bent on getting even that day? I beg to differ with the latter opinion.
