A story of my dogs life and the joy and heartache he brought to me.
I lost my beloved toy poodle Colby on June 3, 2009 from a heart attack. He was only 8 years old. He was my best friend.
Colby was adopted as a puppy in Texas. He was so small and licked my face the whole ride home. He brought many laughs during his puppy stage. His favorite toys were a plastic squeaky hot dog and his little soccer ball. He would run all over the house with one or the either toy. Housebreaking him was easy. I used the puppy training pads. It worked like a charm. One of Colby’s favorite things to do was walk on the shore of Lake Grapevine and sleeping in bed next to me.
At 7 years old he and I moved to California to be with my parents after my divorce. We traveled in my car all the way from Grapevine Texas to Southern California. We stayed in hotels in Amarillo, Albuquerque and Flagstaff finally ending up in So.Cal after 4 days of driving. Colby behaved the whole time. He took quite an interest in all the beautiful scenery. Once we arrived at my parents home, Colby made himself very comfortable by marking his territory throughout the house. Oh well, my parents will get over it.
Once in California we had some fun adventures. I took Colby to the beach for the first time. He didn’t know what to make of all the sand nor the ocean. But after a few visits he got close to the water. The next big adventures we did was camping with my new boyfriend and his dog Gomer. Colby and Gomer learned to like each other after hanging for a while. We all enjoyed our camping experiences.
After living in So. Cal for a little over a year Colby suddenly acted strange like he couldn’t breath right. Mom and I took him to the Vet immediately. A few hours later I got the call from the Vet saying Colby had a heart attack and died. I felt like I died too. June 3, 2009 was the worst day in my life. He is still missed to this day. But as each day goes by the less sad I am and the more grateful I am that Colby was in my life. I love you Colby, my best friend, my little man, my little boo boo. I will see you in Heaven one day.
