This short piece is dedicated to Shirley Shuler, who is a big Mina and Hwang fan, second only to me. Hope you like it.
Mina slowly walks toward the Seung dojang, her father’s school, getting ready for another day of training with Hwang, her father’s best student. She expelled a long sigh. Sparring with Hwang could get so tedious, considering the fact that he was just too damn good.
She stops just outside the doorway of the dojang, and silently watches as Hwang performed a hyeong, perfectly executing the patterns, his sword Blue Thunder slashing the air. He moved not only with grace, but with such power that Mina would shake from pure force that he would expend, his presence filling the space around him.
She sighs again. He was magnificent, looking so glorious as he slayed his imaginary foe, clad only in his trousers, his chest glistening with sweat, completely focused. Mina sometimes wished Hwang would notice her more, and not just as his master’s daughter. If only there was some way… And then a mischievous glint flickered in her dark brown eyes, a sinful smile kissing her lips.
“Are you ready for me, Hwang?” Mina sweetly called.
“I’m always ready for y–”
Hwang froze. Standing before him was his master’s daughter, holding her polearm Scarlet Thunder, and wearing nothing else.
That day a different kind of sparring session took place.
