My recent encounter with the personable employees of Wal-Mart.
I cannot think of the last time I went to Wal-Mart and had a decent shopping experience. In the small town I live in, it is unstated, yet known; there is no sense or education requirement to be hired by Wal-Mart. In fact, the less you have of either, the higher likelihood you have of getting on. This lack then creates a huge gap in their ability to interact with customers and or help them in anyway.
For example, I recently went in and decided to try out their “price-match” guarantee. Big mistake. I got to the front of the only line open to discover the cashier hated her job, could care less about carefully placing my eggs in the bag, and her improper use of the English language all within 2 minutes of my transaction. When we got to the items I needed price-matched, you would have though I pulled an elephant out of my bag. She literally stared at the ad for a minute or so and then looked at me like I was supposed to show her how to ring it up. She confusingly looked up at me and eventually stated “I dunno how to do this. Ain’t nobody ever had me do this befo’ so you gonna’ have to wait fo’ someone else.” This was the last thing she uttered to me throughout the entire transaction.
Eventually the customer service manager comes over and shows the women how to do the very thing they advertise all over the television. Low prices or not, I will pay a little extra next time to be able to communicate with the person in front of me.
With the economy the way it is and so many people needing jobs how is it Wal-Mart is still the only place that nearly all employees hate their jobs? If it is that terrible, please quit because there is certainly someone whose mortgage is due and would love to be able to pay it.
