A short story I wrote for my son who doesn’t like to go to bed at night.
Mama, I Can’t Sleep
I have a little boy that doesn’t like to go to bed. And I understand. I don’t always like to go to bed either!
Sometimes Ethan will come downstairs because he is soooo thirsty that he must have a drink right now!
Sometimes he can’t find his favorite blanket, Baba.
Sometimes he has to go potty, probably because of the water he drank when he was soooo thirsty!
Sometimes, he can’t fall asleep because his big brother, Eli crawls into his bed to play or tell stories.
Sometimes, Ethan has toys in his bed he plays with and that keeps him awake too!
Sometimes, his sister, Maci, is reading in her bed much too loud!
Whatever the reason, Ethan eventually comes to me and says, “Mama, I can’t sleep.”
That’s when I share a little trick that I use to help me fall asleep. No, not counting sheep. It’s the ABC’s of Thanks.
I try to go through the alphabet and thank God for something that He made for every letter of the alphabet. But you must close your eyes and keep your head on your pillow! Let’s give it a try…
A…Thank You, God, for
apples
antelope
America
B…Thank You, God, for
butterflies
the Bible
bananas
books
C…Thank You, God, for
cars
choices
the Cross
D…Thank You, God, for
dolphins
