A couple enjoys one another’s company on an autumn day.

The air was thick with the smell – her scent. It was a sweet tone of cinnamon with a dash of maple that reminded me of my days back on the farm in Indiana, a nostalgic reminder of days long gone. Not that I minded, but it would be a sad lie to say that I didn’t want to indulge in them. Vivid memories wafted throughout the room, taking me by the hand and leading me knee-deep into a flowing stream leading back to my youth. They licked at my thighs, flickering images of afternoons spent on the docks with a fishing rod and a cooler full of soda. Golden expanses of wheat stretched beyond the horizon as the wind left its gentle strokes upon the limber stalks. Autumn brought with it a season of apple picking and maple syrup, hotcakes and smoked beef. Those were the memories of a childhood thought forgotten.

She was upon me, loving hands placed upon my bare chest to support her small frame. The rays of orange light only served to highlight her auburn hair. Her bemused smile, her blue eyes peering up at me from beneath half closed eyelids – they enchanted me. A strand of reddish hair waved in the gust, swinging to and fro across her face.

I looked up at her from atop the bed. The sheets were bunched in a corner at our feet, cast aside in our tussling. She straddled me, our coarse jeans rubbing against another. Tanned shoulders peeked out from her rolled up shirt sleeves; she always was concerned with her looks. She frequented tanning salons and gyms, ate organic and slept well. And it showed. Her body was taunt and capable of physical wonders I only dreamed about. If that’s what it took to keep her like this, I supported her full heartedly.

She was amazing. And she was mine.

“You’re not going to leave me anytime soon, right?” I prodded her in a playful manner.
