The party was just about to start. Many of the invited guests had arrived and had taken their seats. The music was playing sweat melodies for everybody’s delight. Marv with his brothers and sisters had dressed up in their party wears bought specially for the occasion. All his friends, including the one that did the harm, had all dressed up very nice for the party. And behold Kathy, Marv’s younger sister, crying from inside the room where Marv’s birthday cake was kept to announce to everybody that somebody had spoiled the cake.

“Who did the harm.”? Nobody knew. Marv’s happiness for the party immediately dropped to nothing. He cried and soaked his clothes in tears, but the cake had gone. It was badly spoiled and could not be presented in the party again. All those wonderful decorations on it had gone. What was left was just like bread.

Everybody pitied Marv- what a bad luck. But who could have done that? Nobody knew. But from all indication, it was one of Marv’s friends that was last seen when he entered the room, and after that came Kathy’s cry about the damaged. It must be him that did it. Marv himself suspected him. But the damage has been done and could not be repaired again. And so Marv had his birthday party without birthday cake. It was like heartbreak to him. But he had learnt a very good lesson –not to trust anybody, even his best friends.
