Anne had mentioned that she was going to adopt them. Then, Max and Fang found Iggy’s parents. The next day when Max and the remaining flock went to school, Mr. Pruitt, the principal, had tackled down Max in the teacher’s lounge. Three other teachers had tasers, working with Pruitt while a couple others didn’t have a clue. Max, Angel, Nudge, Fang, and Gazzy escaped from the school. When they went home to grab Total, their talking dog, they had seen Anne yelling at Jeb which who was getting yelled at by Ari. Max went down to see what was happening and found out that Anne was Jeb’s boss! They ran to that bat cave where they were going to hide.

They decided the new plan was going to fly to Florida. Max flew to a beach near Georgia and tried to cut the chip out of her arm than she had seen in the x-ray. She was on the way of losing her arm if Fang didn’t come. Then, the flock set off; they were at the Georgia Welcome Center and decided to sleep in the woods near by. Two straggled kids in the forest who turned out to be spies had given the School their new location. The flock was off, again heading to south Florida where Angel had told them about Itex, the company that was going to destroy the world. After encountering Ari at Disney World, they made a car using junk parts out of a junkyard and drove to find somewhere to sleep.

They ended up in a bad-part-of-town kind of hotel. They were going to sleep and right then and there Max had gotten kidnapped. A new and improved Max replaced the old one because Itex, the company that literally controlled everything, had ordered the have Maximum Ride destroyed and the new Max to replace her. Maximum Ride was put in a tank while the fake one was pretending to be her and leading the flock to be eliminated. When the flock was about to be “taken care of”, the old real Max returned and the flock had no problem telling the two apart. Maximum Ride spared the other Max and they fled, away from the whole situation until the School tracks them, that is.
