A tragic story of young love which had a happy ending.

She sat down beside the windows, staring. Not outside, all she saw were the memories of a past she wished she could forget….

“Come one Jatholic,” a girl with dark blond hair giggled. The boy she called Jatholic had shoulder-length black hair and startling emerald eyes with lips in a pout. With a sigh, he gave in to the blond’s pleading. “Okay Violet. If you insist….”

The girl continued to stare at nothing. As another memory surfaced, she gently brushed against her lips with her fingers and sighed….

“Please understand Violet! I love you, but my family needs me to marry her. I would do anything to be with you!” With that said, he pulled the blond girl into his arms and kissed her. “I love you Violet, and I a sorry.” As soon as the words were out of his mouth, Jatholic disappeared, leaving Violet alone.

A couple of months later, the blond girl heard about a spectacular wedding between two of England’s wealthiest and most blue-blooded inhabitants. Sarah Leone and Jatholic Havings. She cried.

The girl sighed, and for a second looked down at her hands and whispered something unintelligible. She looked back into her mind, attention once again by the past…

Violet was attending a party at her friend’s house when she saw him. It had been so long since Violet last saw Jatholic, but she knew it was him. He had hardly changed. Laughing, with his arms around a beautiful lady with hair as black as a raven’s wing, he looked completely charming. Violet knew that was his wife, Sarah. As the blond girl turned to leave the mansion, Jatholic spotted her. With a jolt, he took his arms off the raven-haired beauty and ran over to where he had last seen Violet… but she was already gone. He fell to his knees, sadness and loss written all over his face and whispered, “Violet.”

Tears were pouring down the girl’s face, her heart was aching and she hurt so much…”I don’t want to remember you anymore Jatholic,” the blond girl said. “You left me and you can’t keep holding on. You wanted her, so go to her. Be happy, but let me forget about you.” A single tear dripped down the man’s face, but all he said was, “As you wish Violet.” And he disappeared into the shadows. Once he was gone, Violet dropped to her knees, sobs shaking her petite frame.

The woman by the window was shaking, and she whispered, “I don’t want to remember,” into the night…

She was sitting down when she heard the news. A messenger was led to her by a servant and he bowed respectfully. “My lady, I am afraid I have some bad news for you.” The messenger remorsefully whispered. “Jatholic Havings, your childhood friend died last night. He was killed on the way home from his visit with you.” She went into shock, and the servant ushered the messenger out. He died, she thought. The girl knew it was because of her. Violet moved over to the window, sat down and cried.

The girl next to the window and sighed, full of sorrow. She would never forget.

“”You still haven’t let go?” A voice she thought she never would hear again penetrated the fog her memories had her in. The girl turned and shock was etched on her face. “Jatholic….how?” She whispered. “It is time for you to stop suffering….Violet.” Jatholic smiled and beckoned her to him. With awe, she stood up, walked over to him… and disappeared when she touched him. Hours later, the servants found her body.

Still, to this day, you can hear the laughter of two people and sometimes you can hear the laughs followed by a name. Sometimes it is Violet, others Jatholic. The woman’s memories no longer burdened her.
