Mole Story

    Mole was having an absolutely terrible day. Earlier his longtime girlfriend had broken up with him for another mole. Mole hated this mole because he thought he was a “gangsta” and acted like an idiot. In his frustration with what happened he had knocked his chemistry essay that he had spent several hours on the night before onto the floor. His dog, Norman, had quickly trotted up and snatched it up and ripped it to shreds. When Norman was done with the paper he left the pieces on the ground and went after moles new shoes. Little did Mole know though that his luck was about to change.
    While walking along the road made of gold, a transition metal, he stopped at a gas station to get a coke. He normally would have gotten a snickers bar too but he had just bought some at Sam’s Club. In fact, he had bought an Avagadro’s Box of Snickers which contained 6.02 x 102 3 bars. He walked up to the checkout to pay for his coke when he noticed an orange paper hanging on the side advertising the Texas Lottery. He thought of all the things he would do with the money; he get a pool of water(composed of 2 Hydrogen and 1 Oxygen atom), a new car, study all six branches of chemistry(Organic, about carbon containing compounds; Inorganic, about non carbon compounds; Physical, about matters relationship to energy; Analytical, analysis of material to gain a better understanding of it; Theoretical, which uses mathematics and computers to understand and predict chemical behavior and compounds; and Biological, the study of processes in living things), and maybe even get his girlfriend back  He bought 5 (the atomic number of Boron) tickets and left.    (10 facts)
    The metal road was hot because metal is a good conductor of heat. He walked home thinking of his girlfriend, now his ex-girlfriend, and his favorite subject, chemistry. Mass cannot be created nor destroyed but the relationship with his ex had. They had started off as the best of friends and had soon grown closer. Mole was devastated when she broke up with him. The love was not composed of atoms as all matter is, it was made of those special feelings that only those that have loved know about. He turned his thoughts away from his ex, it made him too sad. He instead thought of the composition of the coins in his pocket as he often did. Pennies made of Copper, symbol Cu Atomic #29, and Zinc, symbol Zn Atomic #30; Nickels made of Nickel, Ni Atomic #28; and Quarters of Copper and Nickel. He recited these facts softly to himself as he had many times as he made his way home.        (9 facts)
    Mole sat in his favorite chair at home waiting for the Lottery to come on. Things had been better except falling off the chair when he was changing a light bulb. The light bulb had lasted a long time since its metal filament was a good conductor of electricity and heat. Changing it would have been easy had the dog not knocked him off the chair.  He turned his attention back to the television when he saw the lottery numbers pop up. 8-19-20-37-39-53. He looked at his own numbers and compared. He sat and stared in disbelief for a minute. His numbers were the same as the ones on TV. He was a moleionaire!        (1 fact)
