A writing piece of Wesley Hayden in a first person perspective. From the book Montana 1948. In this role-play I am talking in front of a courtroom, talking about Frank’s(Character in the book’s) death!

Thank you, your honour, I am Wesley Hayden, sheriff of Bentrock, I am married to Gail Hayden with my son David. Marie Little Soldier was our house cleaner and was very close to our family. Marie never gotten sick but became deadly ill suddenly and we instructed Frank to tend to her aid.

As Frank’s brother and Sheriff of Bentrock, I noticed that Frank was acting strangely. On the day that Marie was ill she instantly frightfully retaliated at the sight of Frank going to attend to her, and Gloria told me that this was serious, I saw the sight on Marie’s face of pure fear.

Some time ago, when we were children growing up to teenagers living on my father’s ranch, I had walked over to the shed and this is where I caught Frank with an Indian girl in the stables. Over the years I forget about that day, and was reminded of it when I saw Marie’s face, which had me thinking and questioning who Frank really was and if this could really be true?

As Frank was my brother I had to do some subtle investigations. On my spare time while working I did some investigating when I could, I received a few tip offs from people around town and especially from the Native American community, they all strongly stated that Frank was doing some bad things to Native women, a lot of the sexually assaulted women were to afraid to notify the authorities because of racist discrimination.

Days later after Marie’s death my family went to my parents Ranch and confronted Frank near the river outside the house and questioned him about Marie he didn’t deny it, but he attempted to change the subject a lot and tried to accuse me of spying on him and believing the “crazy lying Indian people who could easily think that our modern medicine is bad for their Voodoo ways.”

I had decided to go and investigate with a well respected Native, Ollie Young Bear, who had graduated from Montana state university and is a war hero.  After some discussion, he told me that he, when driving past my house he witnessed Frank “Creeping” around on the day that Marie was found dead.

I had invited Frank over to my house and confronted him, I lead him down into the cellar, and there it was that I got a confession out of him. With every contention of arresting him, he begged to be left in the cellar locked up instead of going to jail and having his reputation ruined. I suitably fed him and ensured that he was well hydrated. My father, (Julian Hayden) showed up at my home, harassing me to let Frank leave and forget about it. I refused his wishes and sent him away.

Days later i was out at work i received a message left at my desk from David, which needed me home ASAP… there it was that i saw Len McAuley arresting some thugs which were sent to the house on behalf of Julian Hayden. Len stated that he came rushing to the house after he heard a loud shot gun round coming from the house which was from Gail Hayden, shot a warning shot to scare the thugs.

That night in the early hours of the morning, strange noises were coming from the cellar. The sounds were jars smashing on the floor and I sat in the kitchen alone, until the sun starting to show. I walked down the stairs to the cellar, opened the door and saw the glass shattered and blood soaked ground with Frank laying in it. I screamed to Gail to come down, she instantly called the ambulance and they came and rushed him to the hospital but it was too late.

That is all i have to say,

 thank you your honour.

Conor Delaney.
