This article is about the suburb of Cairns called Mooroobool and the photos are a collection of the morning, evening and night sky through out the year of 2009 as well as a little information of the history of the place I call home.

Located 5.4kms West of Cairns City, Mooroobool was named after Mooroobool Peak near Copperlode. There doesn’t seem to be any indication as to whether or not copper was ever found in the area to warrant the name ‘Copperlode’.

The above photos are of early morning.

Wonderful waterfalls cascade down from the mountain range from the Lake Morris Road which  are visible from my front door and only occur during our wet season. The Big Wet or Monsoon season heralds in Cyclonic activity which begins in November and goes through to March, with March being our wettest month. This is also stinger season and crocodile breeding time.

Just before sunrise.

The word Mooroobool is an Aboriginal word for ‘Meeting of the Waters’, and is also a Gimuy Wallabarra Yidinji tribal name for a head dress.

Cloud photos taken mid-morning.

Lake Morris, also known as Copperlode Dam is a tourist attraction with information , Kiosk and a B.B.Q. area for those who love to picnic.

The 16 km range is also a venue used by the Cairns Cycling Club for competitive racing in which many local, national and international cyclists have competed in, including my two youngest sons, Stephen and Timothy.

Late evening.

Full Moon against the black night sky.

Mooroobool is the second largest and one of the oldest residential suburbs in Cairns.

It was known as West Cairns when we built our home way back in 1971.

Below are some shots of my street under water after a huge downpour.
