For a long time the Moths and Butterflies were good friends, but then the Moths became jealous …

After the other fairies left, the moths and butterflies stayed closed friends.  However, after many generations have passed, the story of their origin was forgotten.  The new moths became jealous of the butterflies because the butterflies were far prettier than them.  So they tried to device a way to get rid of the butterflies.

One day, they approached the bees and accused the butterflies of stealing honey from the bees.  The bees believed the moths and immediately set out and captured all the butterflies and imprisoned them in a mystical tree.

With the butterflies out of the way, the moths were very happy.   Unfortunately, it is the butterflies that have been pollinating the flowers and allowing them to grow and prosper.  Without the butterflies, the flowers began to die off.   There was a small bee that saw what was going on.  He believed in the innocence of the butterflies and decided to investigate.  He overheard some of the moths talking about getting rid of the bees as well so that they can rule the fields they shared with the bees.

The small bee tried to tell the adult bees but they dismissed him as making up stories and did not want to listen to him.  The small bees then recruited his friends to find ways to rescue the surviving butterflies.  They searched for other allies who believed in them and went to the tree to set the butterflies free.  Some ants were recruited to help.  Unfortunately, they could not find anyway of doing that.  Finally, one of the ants reminded them that the butterflies were of mystical origin as is the tree.  He suggested that they ask the butterflies how to get the tree to free them.

The butterflies said it was very simple; they just needed enough people to believe in their innocence.  With that the little bees and ants said, “We believe”.    As soon, as the words were uttered, the tree open up and released the butterflies.

As soon as the butterflies were free, they went to the fields and realize that they have very little time to save their field and got to work to save the flowers.  It was just in time too.  After the bees saw what the butterflies did, they realized that how evil the moths were.  The moths found out and immediately hid themselves.

That is why most of the moths only come out at night when the butterflies and bees are sleeping – to avoid getting caught.  Other moths developed the skill of camouflage.

And the bees help pollinate the flowers (I think) so there is a lasting friendship message here, too. Nice story. I liked it.
