Drozin helps a woman’s grandson out in Las Vegas and takes on the mob.
After ending a war that had gone on since the middle of the 14th century, working in three nursing homes was going to be a big reality check for Drozin. But after putting in a day of work helping elderly people, it felt nice that he had done something that was really appreciated. It may not make headlines. But in the eyes of God, his kindness was going to be rewarded in Heaven.
One of the people Drozin was getting close to was Mrs. Virginia Morretti. He brought her breakfast and lunch up to her and she would tell him about her days as a Rockette. She may have been 81. But she still had a fairly good set of gams.
“Hello, Mrs. Morretti. How are you doing today?”
“Pretty good, considering what is happening to my grandson out in Vegas.”
“Oh?”
“I got a letter from him today that has made me worry some. He wrote that he is having financial problems. But I’m sure that’s an understatement. He is probably up to his eyeballs in debt and doesn’t know where to turn for help. I can’t help him and his parents are just getting by. He wrote that he sold the coin collection he started when he was a kid. He is in big trouble because he wouldn’t have brought it into that pawn shop that is shown on the History Channel. He worked so hard with his metal detector on the beaches, in fields, in parks, almost everywhere. I remember how excited he became when he vacationed in Florida and found that Spanish gold after a hurricane came through. I hope he kept at least a few of the coins. But if he is deeply in debt, he may have parted with all his coins.”
“How much were they appraised for?”
“At least $20,000. If he’s like his dad, he probably gambled most of his money away.”
“What does he do out in Vegas?”
“He works for an architecture firm out there. He is quite good. There is plenty of work even with a bad economy. But that could all end if the economy gets any worst.”
“What would you like for me to do?”
“You’re suppose to be some kind of a superhero I hear. Is that so?”
