Drozin decides to become an example for others to follow by doing community service.
Drozin knew that many people thought he was a murderer even though he had been exonerated. It didn’t matter that the TV stations and radio stations proclaimed his innocence. They thought it was a cover-up and that the woman may have known something about him he didn’t want revealed.
Thursday after work, Drozin appeared as Mr. Amazing in the NYPD midtown precinct office and spoke with the captain in his office.
“I’m so glad you came here today. I’ve always wanted to meet you and I am relieved that Ramshief Hooganvisor was able to prove that you were being framed. Is he from the same dimension you come from?”
“No. There are more dimensions that there are nations on this planet. We met each other when I came to New York to volunteer my abilities in service to the people of this city. I know he does a fine job for the force. So I decided to go the extra mile and do something I really don’t need to do. But I want to do it.”
“What’s that?”
“I want to do community service. I know I’m helping communities already. But I want to be out there in the public as an example for others to follow. If they see a superhero doing something anyone can do and he’s not ashamed, they might not look down on community service.”
“I don’t think any comic book superhero has ever done community service. This will definitely be a first. Where would you like to work?”
“I’ll leave that up to you. Where am I needed the most?”
“If this isn’t beneath you or too degrading, we could really use you in nursing homes. It’s hard enough hiring good people to take care of old people. But making it community service has caused some people to want to spend time behind bars on weekends. Are you sure you want to do it?”
“They need to be treated with dignity. I don’t want to be treated any differently than you would a felon. I know I’m not a felon. But if people see me doing it, they may respect me even more. After all I have been through in the last week, I feel I need to give something back to the community as a means of thanking the fine people of New York City. I saw the supporters outside the courthouse. They believed in me and I find that heartwarming.”
