Drozin decides to become an example for others to follow by doing community service.
Drozin worked in all three nursing homes for lunch and delivered meals to the residents that were in their rooms. He also cleaned up after people and even took care of accidents. Eventually the nurses and regular staff members began to rely on Drozin to do the work of half a dozen people or more and he didn’t complain. He did what he was asked.
Drozin knocked off at around 5:00 in all three nursing homes and transported home to get ready for a concert at the Mostly Mozart festival at Lincoln Center that evening. They were going to perform a couple of his symphonies and his Piano Concerto Number 25 in Avery Fischer Hall. The hyperacceleration and work load took its toll and he was asleep before the third movement of the first symphony. He awoke when someone sitting beside him nudged him during intermission. But he was snoozing by the time the pianist was on the second movement of the concerto.
Nine more weeks and he would be done with the volunteer community service. At least he would be done before Christmas and he could attend matinees of the Nutcracker and Messiah at Carnegie Hall after sleeping until late in the morning.
Then he thought of something he should have done from the beginning. There were plenty of androids in the Installation that had stood in their chambers since the previous residents were in New Drantis. Since they obeyed orders in any language thanks to telepathic capability, they would be perfect attendants for the nursing homes. He even replaced ovens in all three nursing homes with food and beverage synthesizers.
For the next nine Saturdays, Drozin worked in the nursing homes and made many improvements. He even brought advanced medical devices to the nursing homes to allow the nurses, doctors, and other workers to help the residents more. By the time his ten weeks of service ended, the nursing home residents were better off, the meals were finer than what many quality restaurants turned out, and everyone was grateful for the contributions Drozin gave to the nursing homes. He didn’t even complain when he had to clean up vomit and filthy bedsheets along with those who made the messes.
Drozin slept in the Saturday after he completed his community service and woke up after noon.
