Drozin gives a lecture at Columbia University on the need for superheroes in today’s society.
Drozin was standing off-stage in the rotunda of the Low Memorial Library on the campus of Columbia University waiting to be introduced. A professor of literature stepped up to the microphone at the podium and said a few words.
“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. I know why you are here tonight and it’s not to hear me ramble on. It is my pleasure to introduce to you the man of the hour; Mr. Amazing. Mr. Amazing, please.”
With the theme from the movie “Superman” blaring over the speakers, Drozin stepped out onto the stage amidst thunderous applause and shouts. The music faded out when he stepped up to the mike to speak.
“Good evening. I am Mr. Amazing. My real name is Drozin Kanfibulac. I come from another dimension where people like me are considered practically normal. You may have caught me pitching for the Mets earlier this year when I revealed that the Astros were using an android as a player. Or you might have caught my Dr. Pepper commercials on TV. However you recognize me, you don’t know who I really am.
“First off, I love the Lord. I attend a church in the tri-state area. But I look a bit different than this so that the congregation isn’t disturbed by a bunch of gawkers. If you thought I might be an atheist, you are mistaken. We who shift between dimensions know where Heaven and Hell are located.
“As the title of the lecture states, I will discuss the need for superheros in modern society. The police and fire departments are doing a good job. But sometimes they need some help. That is one of the reasons why I am here. I have saved numerous people who might have died had I not been around. I have also faced some things that humans aren’t prepared to confront. Sometimes when a hero isn’t enough, a superhero is needed.
“Where I come from, superheros like Superman, Spider-man, Batman, Captain America, all those fictional characters inspire enhanced people like me to do our best. A lot is expected of us and we don’t want to disappoint the public.
“I’m sure you have a lot of questions for me. That is why you were asked to submit questions on 3 by 5 cards for me to answer. I will answer them in the order they were collected.”
