Drozin performs piano concertos at Lincoln Center.
All week, Drozin was a bit nervous knowing he would perform in front of thousands of people on the stage of Avery Fischer Hall at Lincoln Center. He was able to pass out tickets to all of the people in the office. None of them wanted to miss out on an entire football weekend in New Drantis, so none of them took tickets for the Saturday matinee and only a few took tickets for the evening performance on Saturday.
The orchestra that was going to perform was the Orvrellus Concert Performance Group. Thanks to WQXR and other radio stations in the tri-state area, the concerts were announced as well as the rehearsals that would be open to the public. Since the musicians had the music down pat, the rehearsals would feature music that wasn’t going to be performed in concert. Special half-price tickets were issued at the door, over the phone, and over the Internet.
The conductor told the audiences that were as large as most concert audiences about the music and composers since they had never heard about the composers and their music before. The music played was as fine as any the audiences had ever heard. It sounded both familiar and different. Some of the instruments played were a combination of electronics and wind with some able to play multiple tones simultaneously.
On Thursday night while the musicians were on the stage of Avery Fischer Hall and both Drozin and the conductor were in the back, Elliot Forrest from WQXR walked out on stage to talk to the audience.
“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. I’m Elliott Forrest from WQXR. It is my extreme pleasure to welcome you here tonight to a unique concert experience. The Orvrellus Concert Performance Group has never played a concert in this dimension. So you could say they are making their world premier here in New York with music I’m sure you will find interesting. I’m sure they will be performing here in the future.
“I have an announcement I feel I can make about the Orvrellus Musical Performance Association. Next year they will present on the stages here at Lincoln Center dance performances, musical theater productions, and recitals on this stage and in Alice Tully Hall. After you hear this assembly of musicians perform for you tonight, I’m sure you’ll demand that they return and will sell out the performances of the other groups.
