This morning a county sheriff called me out to his office. I had to drive out a half hour to reach the small county capitol. With some luck I easily caught him at his office in the county court house before any deputy was sent out to track me down.

The sheriff was standing right at his office door as I walked past the county Court room. Before he could give me any instructions I said, “Sheriff I’m just a programmer in the largest software company in our county not one of those large nation wide ones.. Usually you call in the sate cops when needed. Why would you call me out now. The only death that’s been publicly reported was that heart attack the rich resident had Friday.”

The county sheriff rubbed his jaw a bit and then said, “Porter we need your help out here now because neither the state police or our county has upgraded the law enforcement computer like your big city law enforcement has.”

I interrupted him, “Huh that death was ruled by your doctor to be a legitimate heart attack. That’s the kind of death that never needs the investigative software that I’ve written.”

My remark made the gray haired old man grunt. “Billy there is one good thing about living way out here. Every weekend or so you can have a family BBQ like I did Saturday. That lets the whole family get together and help each other out.”

“Sheriff Smith how does a little family gathering pertain to law enforcement. I usually can’t even tell my wife what I’m formatting. She just can’t handle any tales about variables. The horrible facts upsets her too much to even hug me before we go to sleep.”

“One of my sons is is a doctor at the old age housing here in town. He told me that heart attack was really suspicious. That’s why my other son the computer science instructor at the Technical Vocational Institute investigated the victim’s desk top computer for me.” 

“Huh, what did he find some kind of will that points some where?”

“No Porter that man’s PC was used mostly to keep him rich. It is filled with all kinds of accounting tools. My son just found one piece of software he said was highly suspicious. That’s why you got called in.”

After being needfully called on duty I got directions to the victim’s massive three story home. The sheriff had the driveway blocked off so a deputy had to escort me up to the second floor office. It took me just a couple minutes to pull up the suspicious software and link to the city main frame.

It just took my investigative software a half hour to tell me the program could deeply evaluate any user’s medical history. That way it could figure out exactly what would cause the user to have a heart attack. In this case it had been attached to the large bit of accounting software the victim had used. That attachment could cause the accountant to display only investment results fatally. The victim had been shown how the stock he had purchased the week before had dropped in value seventy five percent.” 

It has only taken me a week to trace the man who wrote this murder-ware. Since this investigation is based on some dangerous software I could bring that suspect into my office and use our secret torture-ware on him.

Slimy Sam gave out fairly quickly and told me about the victim’s millionaire opponent. He said the wealthy guy had payed up several thousand dollars to get a way to finally win the investment warfare. The company main frame has been able to find out just about everything about this over weight greedy guy. The facts just about guarantee conviction in the state court house.  

With all the wealthy relatives cut off from their inheritance it is probably just going to take another week to come up with some death penalty-ware.Because of the way we all are locked into our computers anymore that software can be anted on the murder’s PC and run his penalty every time he is within sensing. Who cares if this is the first time a man has been legally murdered by some software? Being able to penalize through a PC is long over due.
