This is the tale of two brother’s who’s rivalry brought about the weather phenomenon we call the tornado.
Aftermath
Torna and Anado were separated, and blew where the wind led them to go. Torna, being hot-headed, became a very warm draft that blows a summer and spring. Anado, due to his timidity, became a chilly wind of coldness that blew in fall and winter. Whenever the two ever met, they became full of anger and bitterness. They blamed the other for their eternal punishment and would start to circle around one another wrestling. They gripped each other and tossed and turned. Since they were the winds, they were in the reality just raging winds chasing one another, turning and turning in a circling wrestle. This event always caused them to make their winds stretch and make a funnel of twirling winds as they wrestled and plummeted ground ward, trailing behind them their funnel of wind. The mortals called this phenomenon, the “Tornado”, after the two brothers’ names.
The Tornado would sweep across the land and just like Torna and Anado had done in their body life, they would become mindless berserks, crushing every object in their wrestling boundaries. They carried out Zeus’s destruction curse on the mortals. They destroyed their cities and leveled their agriculture. Soon though, Zeus would see enough chaos and once again separate the winds, and send them to the north and south sections of the world.
Hera was inwardly pleased for a while that her plan had worked, but that joy soon turned to anger as she saw that the Tornado was destroying her temples. “Dear husband” she pleaded “Eliminate this Tornado, before it destroys all of our temples”. “Nay” Zeus answered strictly “The mortals have to be punished for their mistakes and besides, the humans fear and need to worship the gods, they will build new temples to continue to honor us whenever a temple has been totaled”. Hera kept silent but had a concealed anger. Zeus though thought over what Hera had said, and then made sure that the winds would mostly meet in certain times of the year, and in certain places. Torna and Anado continue to create the tornado to this day even, and mankind is still receiving their eternal punishment for the brothers’ demise.
