A short story based on three components – eyeball, light switch and murder.

For such a densely populated country of, you can still find almost abandoned areas in England. One of the rarities is the Lake District. A Windswept area as uneven as sin, it can be a harsh place. A rare thing to find there is a house, any house really but we are only looking at one really. Built out of modest slate coloured stone it fits snugly into the landscape. So well that you expect it to be covered in moss.

This house sits by one of the few spiralling ribbons of tarmac that run through this Uneven and unfair landscape. In the sky, clouds of slate gather around the house. They have come to bear witness…

The house sits there, in it a man with blue eyes and gleaming but sharp teeth waits. Standing by the window and staring up at the slate clouds. He stares for over an hour, his jet black hair seemingly frozen with the rest of his face. Eventually a car appears. It chugs along at a respectable rate, there is nothing rushed about its arrival as it crunches onto the gravel drive. The low engine is turned off and a man steps out and closes the light grey door. He smiles in his suit, shirt and tie at the man in the window. He leans on the bonnet as he locks the car with the press of a button. He starts to move away then he instantly draws his hand to his chest. He looks at it and sees a dirty raindrop, grey and reflective in his palm leaving a trail as it rolls. He feels a slight spatter on his hair and he looks up. Two raindrops land simultaneously under his eyes, rolling down his face leaving grey marks until they drop off his chin.

He will not have a chance to cry, so the clouds did that for him. He shook his head and smiled as he entered the house. He reached to close the door but a burst of wind pinned it open.  He looked up at the slate clouds and cursed. He heaved mightily and slammed the door, the echoes rebounding around the room and inside his skull. He felt uneasy; something was going to happen….

He ignored the feeling and proceeded to pull out a handkerchief from his pocket and wipe his face delicately, trying to remove the stains from the dirty rain, but to no avail.
