What really happened to Wendy and the boys.
Its wings kept the creatures small body afloat in front of the window. Moonlight shown down on the window as it watched the children inside play pirates together. The oldest one called Wendy could be heard through the window as she tried to calm them down. The creature clapped its hands together in glee as it prepared for the fun it was about to have.
Inside the room the kids were jumping across their beds swinging little cardboard swords around. For weeks it had been working toward making this believable. Several times it had to exert its magic to cause trouble between Wendy and her parents. After a few weeks of waiting it was time.
An hour later the window opened violently and the children in their slumber didn’t wake. In floated a young boy who was wearing clothes made of vines and torn cloth. He began flying around the room reaching for something invisible. Smashing into the dressers and other objects raised enough of a racket that the kids slipped out of their slumber. With Yawns and stretches they stared at the boy as he jumped around room.
”Who are you?” It was Wendy. She had gotten from the bed and was watching the boy jump around the room.
Making noise with its magic had always been difficult for the creature but it gathered what was required and preformed a meager, “Peter Pan.”
”And what are you doing here?” She had her hands on her hips and an angry scowl on her lips.
”Chasing my shadow. It got away as I left Neverland.”
”Neverland?”
”It where I’m from. The land where children stay young forever.” That was the line that was supposed to rope Wendy in. Now it was only a matter of time.
”I should like to see this Neverland.” The creature had been sure to make that prospect seem extremely appealing.
”You can,” Peter waved his hand toward the other two boys, “So can all of you. I will have to teach you to fly however.” The boy lifted up from the ground to demonstrate.
Eyes wide the other two leaped up and all of them wanted to be shown. The creature explained how using a few carefully crafted lies and soon they were ready. Peter floated outside the window and waited as the children began to leap out one by one.
As each jumped out, the creature created a copy of them flying next to Peter and masked the descent of the actual child. Hiding the thumps took a little work but soon only Wendy was left. She looked hesitant, not ready to believe that just believing that she could fly would allow her too. The creature was too impatient and soon the parents would be home so it used its magic to give her a little bump which sent her tumbling into the cold night air.
As her thump echoed up to the creatures ears, it smiled. Peter and the boys vanished into thin air.
