Nightlight: A Parody of Twilight
by Harvard Lampoon

Review.

Despite the hype and the ever-presence of this book, I was unimpressed and disappointed. Parodies are supposed to poke fun at flaws but I think this book has more flaws than the original Twilight saga. While it’s calling Twilight on its flaws, it has so many jokes and nonsequiters from left field that it stops being funny and starts being confusing. It wasn’t all that clever or original or even that well written. I honestly spent more time trying to ignore the distracting and unoriginal ‘humor’ that I didn’t enjoy the parody of it. If this is the best that Harvard can offer, its student body must seriously be lacking in funny.

The only things I will commend them on are length (it’s very short) and how it calls out Edward being dominating and Bella being weak-willed. I never did like how she never seemed to have much of a voice of her own or how Edward was vaguely stalker-ish. This is a popular opinion and I think the minds at Harvard could have done an infinitely better job at being clever rather than random and insipid.
