Banks gone wild.
I have had nothing but trouble since Wells Fargo took over my bank, Wachovia. First they take away frequent flyer credit card and sent it to Bank of America. When I go to pay off the balance at Bank of America, they say it belongs to FIA. Whoever that is. I did, however, retain my thirty-two thousand dollar credit limit.
Then Wachovia starts charging me fees for online banking. What? They say if I get one of their new credit cards, then that credit will offset the credit I lost when they sold off my original Wachovia card. I say okay. I get the card with only a seven thousand dollar credit limit. I continue to get charged fees. They say because of my limited credit I will have to keep one thousand dollars in my non-interest bearing checking account to avoid future fees. If my credit limit is ten thousand dollars then I wouldn’t have to keep this balance.
I ask when I can get an increase. They say six months.
It’s been six months. Time for a phone call.
“Hello. How can I help you?”
“I would like to have the limit raised on my credit card to at least ten thousand dollars.”
“What is your credit card number?”
“5389-4869-5697-8932.”
“What are the last four digits of your social security number?”
“7969.”
“Do you rent or own where you live?”
“I own.”
“What is your mortgage?”
“I don’t have one.”
“I will need a few minutes to find out your credit score.”
“The last time I had it checked it was 840. The car dealer said I could buy every car on the lot if I wanted to.”
“As you might know it is harder to get credit than it used to be. I will put you on hold.”
