They may be a generation apart, but some things don’t change.

“She’s talking to that boy again.” Jack could tell his wife was frowning as she walked in to the kitchen.

“What’s wrong with that? He sounds like a nice lad.” He looked up at her from behind the newspaper he knew he wasn’t going to get to finish.

“But she’s on that computer every night; she doesn’t know him from Adam.” Her hands were on her hips now – she meant business. Jack took off his glasses and placed them on top of the newspaper, he sighed.

“It’s not doing her any harm; there are worse things she could be doing with her spare time and at least she makes sure to finish her homework first.” He smiled at Tara as he stood up. She was still beautiful even after all these years.

“….I just worry about her Jack,” her frown faded as he folded her into his arms.

“It’s not such a bad thing to get to know someone before you lay eyes on them is it?” He gave her a kiss.

“After all, it worked OK for us didn’t it Cuddles?” Tara giggled in spite of herself.

“That was different though wasn’t it?” She looked up and Jack found himself staring into those brown eyes he’d loved for as long as he could remember, her frown had completely dissolved now.

“Yes, Kristy’s seventeen – not fourteen.” Tara smacked him playfully on the back side and scarpered up the hallway before he could catch her.

“Is mum around?” Jack could hear a note of insecurity in his daughter’s voice.

“She’s in her sewing room I think.” He looked up at his daughter; she was a carbon copy of Tara when she was that age; long, dark brown hair, flawless, olive skin and a smile to knock you off your feet.

“Is everything alright?” he put down the paper once more.

“No, yeah, well I think so! I’m finally going to get to meet Brad!” She could no longer hide her excitement.

“Hey, that’s great. So you haven’t told your mother yet?” He could tell she hadn’t from the look in her eyes.
